About
Welcome to Sushi Oribe, an exceptional Japanese dining experience nestled within the vibrant atmosphere of Vipod Residences in Kuala Lumpur. This restaurant is not just a place to indulge in sushi; it's a refined culinary journey guided by a master in the art of sushi-making, Chef Naoya Kawasaki.
Sushi Oribe prides itself on offering a unique take on traditional Japanese cuisine, steering clear of the mundane. As many patrons have noted, this establishment is not your typical sushi joint. Instead of California rolls or standard tempura, you are invited to embark on an omakase journey, where the courses are carefully curated by the chef, ensuring that no two visits are alike.
What truly sets Sushi Oribe apart is not just the food, but the commitment to delivering an unforgettable dining experience. As Danny S. excitedly remarked about the "OMG" fish, it's easy to understand why customers rave about the flavors that evoke such strong reactions.
So whether you're visiting for a casual lunch or a special dinner date, Sushi Oribe promises to impress. Make a reservation, settle in, and let Chef Naoya and his team guide you through a remarkable culinary adventure. Just remember, as the reviews suggest, to immerse yourself in the moment—because here, the meal is meant to be experienced, not just eaten.
For a taste of the extraordinary, visit Sushi Oribe at Jalan Kia Peng, Kuala Lumpur. Arigatou, Nao, for an experience that tantalizes both the palate and the soul!
“ Staff is friendly and attentive, chef Nao is equally friendly. Food is amazing and well presented. Atmosphere is cozy without being claustrophobic. Not your typical sushi joint. If you're looking for a California roll or somecrunchy tempura nonsense, this is not the place for you to go. This is more of an experience. The courses come in an order designed by the chef and consist of items chosen by the chef. You will not have the same meal program twice. But that doesn't matter because it's all amazing. ”
“ Fish is fresh, firm, and flavorful. Each selection is seasoned well. The chef knows what he's doing and does it well. ”
“ It's my sushi, and I want it NAO! Master Chef Naoya Kawasaki was the sushi maestro during my visit to Sushi Oribe, and the experience was not about the past nor the future; no, it was all about the present, the now, the NAO. ARIGATOU NAO !!!! With precision, deftness, and learned experience, Nao delivers a symphony of a wide variety of sea-based organisms. My personal favorite was what Nao called the "OMG" fish because it quite literally makes you think "OMG" after you eat it. Oh. My. God. OMG ! Obviously try to get a seat at the sushi bar and order the omakase as is the case at most sushi restaurants. Don't put off a visit to Sushi Oribe for later... come here NAO! ”
“ Working in KL was brutal. Long hours and acquiring a ballroom tan had only one cure: Sushi! This is a wonderful place. The atmosphere is top notch!! Service is classy. Guys, bring that special gal of yours here for a memorable experience. The food is spectacular and extremely fresh. Such amazing flavors had me anticipating each new course. I would highly recommend the Omakase! The staff was pleasant and presented the details that went into each of the courses. I do have to state that even the garnishes were awesome!!! Now before you dislike my review of the lack of photos: sometimes you need to live in the moment and pay attention to your surroundings and just enjoy life! Put the technology away and interact with people!!! Ok, I did take a few...I am not a total Luddite!!! ”
“ Came the day where We were the only customer. Best food experience. The omakase that could beat many sushi shop in Japan, hands down. ”
“ Currently the best Japanese omakase I have tried in KL. The best way to enjoy such omakase sessions is to get a counter seat and watch your food being prepared. And it becomes such an interactive experience as the chef will try his best to explain the item that is being served to you. We were lucky to come on the day the fish supply is flown in. And it helps to let the chef know what your favourites are so if you're lucky, you might be in for a treat like yours truly who received a second helping of her favourite uni (sea urchin)! The fish is undeniably fresh of course, and already thoughtfully seasoned by the chef, so dipping it into soy sauce is not needed. Definitely none of that wasabi mixed in soy sauce business here. And eating sushi with your hands are actually encouraged! And if you have watched Jiro Dream of Sushi, this is definitely an experience you do not want to miss. I too, dream of sushi now. ”
“ The closest to authentic omakase session money can buy in KL. At rm500 upwards per pax it isn't wallet friendly but is really worth every cent. Had a seat at the bar with second chef Naoya-san and it was sublime. Pleasantly chatty and genuinely warm he easily warms up to his guests. If you're unsure about the million stressful methods to approach each dish let the chef know and he'll patiently guide you through them. This is a faux pas friendly space. Everything served was outstanding, compelling weird approval gestures and rigourous nods at the chef. Very oiishi followed by two thumbs up became our de rigueur response of the night. It was an excellent experience overall. The adage you get what you pay for really holds true here. ”
“ Sushi Oribe, is a unique Japanese restaurant that serves true authentic Japanese sushi - the way it's meant to be created and consumed. Located on the ground floor of ViPod Residences in Kuala Lumpur, Oribe offers an omakase-style dining experience to all of its diners. There are 12 counter seats and a small dining room area. All the sushi is made by only two key men, Master Chef Hideaki Oritsuki (a.k.a Chef Ori) himself and his right hand man, Naoya - depending on which section of the sushi counter you are seating at. For their lunch menu, Oribe offers 5 different dining experiences - Seto, Iga, Mino, Oribe and Omakase. Their lunch sets get progressively expensive down the menu but it also comes with more expensive and exclusive ingredients. For our experience, we opted for their Mino Set. It is comprised of an appetizer, steamed egg custard, 13 "chef's speciality" nigiri, sushi roll, miso soup and a dessert. However, the menu doesn't specify what the nigiris will be. The chef will simply serve from the range of fresh ingredients they currently have and whatever he thinks is best for the diner - omakase! We watched the chef work meticulously as he grabs the right amount of warm sushi rice, giving it a gentle squeeze and palms it together along with a piece of horse mackerel. He then places the piece of nigiri onto our plate and describes what we will be eating. I was pleased to try out new types of Japanese fish during this meal. The balance in the quantity of the sushi rice and the cut of the fish was absolutely spot on. Along with its freshness, I savoured my first bite and entered a whole new realm of Japanese dining. Dining at Oribe changed my perception of Japanese sushi entirely. To watch a passionate sushi master work with so much care and precision really opened my eyes. I think my taste buds have been spoilt and I'm not sure if I can turn back. Some might feel that their price is on the expensive side, but considering the superior quality of their fresh ingredients, along with their omakase dining style and sushi bar concept, every dime spent here is absolutely worth it. ”
“ Easily the best omakase sushi experience you can find in Malaysia. For now at least. Go for the omakase and request for Ori-san, who is the sushi master previously from the famed Sushi Hinata. When he disappeared from Sushi Hinata, people were worried he'd never return. That is how well known and sought after Ori-san is. Be prepared to fork out at least RM200-300 per person at Sushi Oribe, and that is not even the price of the omakase set. Although this might be exorbitant to some, the dining experience you get here is truly exquisite. The fish is fresh and flown in from Japan. Slicing of the fish is precise. Fish to rice ratio is just right. Flavours and textures can be quite captivating especially for those who love sushi. Don't be surprised when you get your sushi at room temperature. And don't be shy to use your hands to eat the sushi set in front of you by the sushi master. For the thrifty, go during lunch hours when the sets are significantly cheaper. Ingredients remain essentially the same. ”
